i plucked the apple from the branch
and i built the ark with my two hands
i spent forty years in the desert sands
only to shy away from giant men
i found myself a wife in ruth
and i appointed saul king of the jews
i watched the sheep like daddy told me to
i know, i know that the wind blows
i hear its sound, but i don't know where it's going
like my savior, it's always there
i watched as satan attacked job
and i defeated goliath with a single stone
i slaughtered thousands of men with a donkey's jaw bone
only to die blind and alone
and i stood before the burning bush
and i fled when potiphar's wife tempted me with lust
and my son was saved by a young ram's blood
because i believe in a god we can trust
i know, i know that the wind blows
i hear its sound, but i don't know where it's going
like my savior, it's always there
hallelujah

Poetry In Meters

that diamond hasn't tied its not just yet
and there's a few words weighing heavy on my chest
it's only poetry in meters
it's only lies if you're the cheater
well let me stop you before this all gets out of hand
don't you want to feel it
don't you think it's worth it
in the scheme of things
don't you wish you'd tried it
don't you try and hide it
he only goes skin deep
well i can't say this enough
i wanted a mansion and not a hut
i can't be satisfied with love
its always passion and always lust
that bring the brick and mortar down
that buckles my knees and crushes my crown
i threw up all over her wedding gown
cause i missed out, yeah i missed out
don't you want to feel it
don't you think it's worth it
in the scheme of things
don't you wish you'd tried it
don't you try and hide it
he only goes skin deep

Prodigal Son

october, find me one good reason
to stay now that there's snow on the ground
my fingers and toes are bitten
from this frost you been sending on down
now my father, he was a preacher
and he taught me everything i need to know
like stay away from that devil he told me
he knows the tricks to bring you down below
mother, your prodigal is coming
he's coming home
i don't see a footstep before me
i don't see an end in sight
my family, they're waiting for me
i think i'll take this road to the right
mother, your prodigal is coming
he's coming home
right before me stood a man in the shadows
i said move aside sir, for i am headed home
i saw the moon glint off that pistol that he drew
and heard the hiss of hell as he groaned
he shot me dead right there and as i fell to the ground
i saw the clouds open up and a horse come riding down
i saw my jesus take the head off of that stranger
and disappear into heaven without a sound
father, your prodigal is coming
i'm coming home

where were we when life wasn't flying by
when there were still star-littered skies
and we had all the time to share
why weren't we there
and now we spend our nights
with parking lot goodbyes
its like i only knew you twice
and now we're strangers separated by the miles and miles
where would we both be
if we planted a garden and not this tree
how would our hearts feel if they weren't free
you're college bound
don't make a sound
i'll see you when the seasons change
we stay up nights talking about nothing at all
if we're obsessed then they are small
and we are better
where would we both be
if we planted a garden and not this tree
how would our hearts feel if they weren't free
you're college bound
don't make a sound
i'll see you when the seasons change
a friend is all you need
you've got a better friend in me
i swear i'll be all i can be
