Do You Know Addy Enlow?
02:46
|
|||
you've done nothing but argue
ever since you got home
and i've been making excuses
out of the marrow inside my bones
it used to be we were dreamers
and our heads would spin around
now i can't get any sleep at night
because silence is the loudest of sounds
i watched your silhouette scale the cityscapes at dusk
and i thought to myself this must be love
well now it's setting in
all those years we filled with sins
and you're breaking your vows
just to get away
oh god, i'd take it all back
tell her no every time she asked
but we made our bed
and not the bedposts are splintering into ghosts
and burning in my eyes
give it up, i need to know you
give it up, i need to know a better truth
i don't want no more regrets at night
give it up, i need to die to find you

Poetry In Meters
04:30
|
|||
that diamond hasn't tied its knot just yet
and there are a few words weighing heavy on my chest
it's only poetry in meters
it's only lies if you're the cheater
well let me stop you before this all gets out of hand
don't you want to feel it
don't you think it's worth it in the scheme of things
don't you wish you'd tried it
don't you try and hide it, he only goes skin deep
well i can't say this enough
i wanted a mansion and not a hut
i can't be satisfied with love
it's always passion and always lust
that brings the brick and mortar down
that buckles my knees and crushes my crown
i threw up all over her wedding gown
cause i missed out
don't you want to feel it
don't you think it's worth it in the scheme of things
don't you wish you'd tried it
don't you try and hide it, he only goes skin deep

it falls into focus
and it comes with a prayer
and i know that it's broken
and i know that you're scared
don't you want to feel it
don't you think it's worth it
in the scheme of things
don't you wish you'd tried it
don't you try and hide it
he only goes skin deep
call a doctor
call just anyone
we need some answers or medicine
call your mother
call just anyone
we need some money to get you home
it's only poetry in meters
it's only lies if you're the cheater
so let me stop you
before this all gets out of hand

The Lion's Den
03:54
|
|||
daniel held their mouths closed so he could pray
a quiet night before his judgement day
there's a cancer in my lung, i cough it up and burn it all
until god says, "my son, that's enough."
you couldn't pay me to hang up my boots
no, i've read it all, all of the words inside this book
so if there's someone out there, well i'm gonna shout it
i don't care if they didn't ask about it
can you see the snake in your garden?
your city's burning to the ground in your sleep
come on, take this song and guard it
so when the silence comes you'll have something to sing
so look for me in the lion's den
that's where i've been, held up with a pack of cigarettes
and i've been bathing in blood to wash away my sins
while in she slipped with whiskey on her breath
close your eyes so you don't see your father
light a match to the alter and give yourself up
like a lamb to the slaughter where it's sweet like wine

Prodigal
06:10
|
|||
october find me one good reason
to stay now that there's snow on the ground
my fingers and toes are bitten
from this frost that you've been sending on down
my father, he was a preacher
and he taught me everything i need to know
like stay away from that devil he told me
he knows the tricks to bring you down, down below
mother
your prodigal is coming
he's coming home
i don't see a footstep before me
i don't see an end in sight
my family, they are waiting for me
i think i'll take this road to the right
mother
your prodigal is coming
he's coming home
i'm coming home
right before me stood a man in the shadows
i said move aside sir, for i am headed home
i saw the moon glint off that pistol that he drew
and heard the hiss of hell as he groaned
he shot me dead right there and as i fell to the ground
i saw the clouds open up and a horse come riding down
i saw my jesus take the head off of that stranger
and disappear into heaven without a sound
i'm coming home
